The nation of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, has been rapidly changing since it's recent opening to tourism. Tourists are flooding in from neighboring Thailand with hopes of experiencing a new and untouched destination. In the last few years, we have seen changes in tourist infrastructure almost daily. The combination of an unpredictably developing, and in essence "third world", nation and the increased demand of first world tourists, along with their first world cash, results in a great potential for rapid change. Will these changes benefit a nation that has for so long suffered under ruthless military rule, or will this new generation of funds only further empower the Burmese government to continue their oppressive tactics?
